TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Paramedics say a man who died soon after being convicted of child sex abuse took a deadly dose of cyanide in the courtroom.

The medics say they've been told that 42-year-old William Moore of Northport, swallowed cyanide after the verdict was read.

Moore's trial on felony sexual abuse charges ended in Tuscaloosa on Monday. Jurors first announced he was innocent of sodomy, but then they convicted him of sexually abusing a child.

Moore then put something in his mouth, telling the court staff it was his daily medication.

When Moore was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail he began to suffer medical distress. Authorities treated him on scene and then transported him to DCH Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

His exact cause of death has not yet been released.
