AL’s incarceration rate 3rd highest in nation

A new federal study says Alabama's imprisonment rate ranks third highest in the nation.

The study by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics says Alabama imprisoned 650 people per 100,000 residents in the state in 2012.

Louisiana ranked first and Mississippi ranked second. The national average was 480 inmates per 100,000 state residents.

    Good news for Cullman shoppers: several stores damaged in the March hail storm are set to open in the next couple weeks. The parking lot is still pretty empty, but the store signs are fixed, the roofs have been repaired, and instead of 'closed' signs, there are now signs that say 'coming soon.'
