HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -

Homewood police are investigating a homicide after finding a woman's body inside her home on Tuesday.

Police were called to a house on Hugh Circle off of Lakeshore Drive around 11:15 a.m. to do a welfare check. A co-worker called police after being concerned when the victim didn't show up for work.

Officers and firefighters entered the home and found the woman's body inside on a couch. They later determined she had been killed.

Detectives have not yet released how the 52-year-old woman was killed or where she worked. Sgt. Andrew Didcoct with Homewood PD said they're not sure if the woman's home was burglarized.

Sgt. Didcoct says it appears that this particular house was targeted.

Investigators roped off the area with crime scene tape and closed the street to all traffic. The scene is still being processed.

First Baptist Church of Birmingham owns the property where the body was found. They have no comment on the case at this time.

Police are expected to release more information Wednesday after they finish processing evidence.
