Domestic dispute results in Dale County standoff

On July 14 at approximately 4:08 PM, Dale County Sheriffs Deputies responded to 10667 East Highway 27, in the Echo Community, in reference to a domestic dispute.  A female victim reported that a suspect had assaulted her earlier in the day and abandoned her on the side of the road in Midland City. The victim was able to get a ride to the Dale County Jail from a passerby where she reported the incident to Deputies.

Deputies responded to the residence to attempt to make contact with the suspect. As Deputies arrived they were able to remove a juvenile from inside the residence while the suspect retreated to the rear of the residence.

Multiple attempts to make contact with the suspect were unsuccessful. Approximately 3 1/2 hours later Deputies made entry into the residence and found a male subject deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The deceased has been identified as 32 year old James Lee Mashburn of Phil Campbell, Al.
