Etowah County authorities have successfully rescued a teen who fell from a cliff along Buzzard Rock Road in the western part of the County.
Sheriff Todd Entrekin says the 14-year old was hiking with friends when he fell 100 feet over a rock ledge. They located the Albertville teen around 9 p.m., however it took several hours to lower a basket to him. Bad weather also slowed down rescue efforts.
The teen was transported to Gadsden Regional Medical Center around 3 a.m. Authorities expect him to recover fully. According to rescuers, the teen was alert and speaking to personnel when he was reached.
"We are thankful for the cooperation among agencies in this successful rescue," says Sheriff Todd Entrekin. "Many residents in the area offered their assistance and provided ATV's for first responders to use. We are grateful for their help."
Blount County Sheriff's Department assisted Etowah County with this rescue, along with West Etowah and Altoona volunteer fire departments, A-Med Ambulance Service, high angle rescue teams from Oneonta and Boaz fire departments and LifeSaver Helicopter.
