UAB will hold a town hall meeting Monday night to discuss how the Supreme Court's same-sex marriage ruling affects Alabamians.
The town hall starts at 6 p.m. in Heritage Hall.
One of the hosts for the event is Equality Alabama. Officials with the group say when SCOTUS ruled on the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8, a lot of people in Alabama were excited but had many questions.
So Equality Alabama wanted an expert who could answer those questions to speak with the public. Susan Watson, Executive Director of the ACLU of Alabama will present the history of the DOMA and Prop 8 cases, explain what the ruling means and answer specific questions from the audience.
Sarah Young with Equality Alabama also tackles issues such as equal treatment in the workplace. She hopes that in addition to issues surrounding same-sex marriage, the audience will provide feedback on other issues the group can help address.
