BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police say no charges will be filed in a shooting that happened last month in a grocery store parking lot.

The victim of the shooting was identified as 62-year-old Lysander Perryman. Police found Perryman's body in the parking lot in the 2400 block of Pearson Avenue SW around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19.

In their investigation, detectives learned that Perryman and the suspected shooter were involved a confrontation when Perryman opened fire and the suspect shot back.

Perryman died from his injuries at UAB Hospital. The suspected shooter was never charged.

The case went before the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, which ruled that the suspect acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Perryman.
