The Alabama High School Athletic Association and Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association will host the 2013 AHSAA Summer Conference and All Star Sports Week in Montgomery July 15 – 20.
The week will include education and certification classes for coaches and all-star competitions in baseball, softball, volleyball, boys' and girls' soccer and boys' and girls' basketball, and football. New to this year's convention, there will be a certification meeting and test on the 19th and 20th for sports officials.
This week-long event will draw approximately 4,000 coaches and administrators from AHSAA member public and private schools as well as 500 student athletes and 400 officials who will have an economic impact on Montgomery of around $1.5 million dollars, according to AHSAA estimates.
"This annual event is a cornerstone of our convention business. It is especially impactful not only because of the downtown convention activities, but also because the venues where the games are played are located city-wide, spreading the hotel and restaurant profits around the entire city," says Dawn Hathcock.
Coaches' and officials' meetings are held at the Montgomery Convention Center, but the all-star sports venues used include Riverwalk Stadium, Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex, Lagoon Park Softball complex, Alabama State University's Dunn-Oliver Acadome, Faulkner University gymnasium and Cramton Bowl football stadium.
Among the keynote speakers will be head coaches Nick Saban (Alabama) and Gus Malzahn (Auburn) and National Federation of High School Executive Director Bob Gardner.
Admission to the All-Star games is $5 per ticket.
