(RNN) - There are many reasons why you should watch Scandal, the hot ABC show about crisis management, sex and other stuff in Washington, DC. In fact, UPROXX published more than 20 of them. The main reason: Kerry Washington was born to be the lead on a major network TV show. She stars as Olivia Pope, the brilliant "fixer" to the rich, politically powerful and mightily screwed up.
Aside from her talented staff of ex-cons, witness protection program victims and government super-spy assassins, Pope has her own super-secret Scandal brewing with the handsome President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn.
Scandal season 2 will be available on DVD on Sept. 3.
It must be really painful to be a Boston Celtics fan.
Aside from trading aging superstars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce along with Jason Terry to division foes Brooklyn late last week, Celtics Nation lost head coach Doc Rivers to the fast-improving Los Angeles Clippers nearly a week before. The Rivers thing really hurt Celtics fans, especially ESPN analyst and king of blatant homerism Bill Simmons, who took to the airwaves and did his best impersonation of a Boston sports radio meathead to voice his disdain for Rivers, who left two years into a 5-year, $35 million contract.
Simmons is a popular and really great sports writer, the creator of the sports and pop culture ESPN-powered website Grandland.com and an aging fraternity boy who ESPN began trotting on TV as a part of their NBA game coverage, much to the open mockery of fans everywhere. He hams it up, and says lots of inappropriate things that must drive ESPN crazy. He exchanged quotes with Rivers regarding the coach's waffling, a sentiment that Boston sports radio shared.
On the night of the 2013 NBA Draft's first round, Rivers was interviewed by ESPN's Shelley Smith, and Smith fed into the media frenzy about the war of words, knowing full well that Simmons was on the set with the rest of the draft coverage crew.
The look on the Sports Guy's face is priceless.
Simmons morphed into a total fan boy, blinders on and objectivity free, unbecoming qualities in a professional sports analyst.
There was plenty of blame to go around. Rivers should have refrained from his unprofessional rejoinder, Simmons should have shrugged it off and Smith shouldn't have asked the question in the first place.
Boston sports radio proceeded to make the Sports Guy into some kind of champion, basically fueling the fire for Rivers to say Simmons was against him from the get-go (which he was), and wanted to be a partner in his firing. Simmons refuted it openly on Twitter calling this grown man by his real name and calling him a liar.
I guess a championship can't buy a high paid homer happiness. Plus, the Celtics have moved on - they hired Butler University head coach Brad Stevens Wednesday.
Monsters U still continues to bring laughs through the first week of July, holding down the No. 1 spot. Last week's big debuts – The Heat and White House Down – debuted towards the top, ranking in big buck at the second and fourth place, respectively. Man of Steel – starring YWIPC's favorite British super hero Henry Cavill – rounds out the top five in its third week in theatres.
Here is the top five, according to Box Office Mojo (listed next to last week's spot and weekend gross):
Another July 4 weekend brings blockbusters to the silver screen.
The Lone Ranger – A reboot of the 1950s television series of the same name follows a Native American warrior named Tonto (Johnny Depp) and his Wild West crime-fighting partnership with the Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer). Is it just me, or is Disney - like most women - obsessed with Johnny Depp?
Despicable Me 2 – The sequel to the popular 2010 animation film finds the evil Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) being asked to help fight a super villain on the rise.
Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain – Recorded comedy performance from Madison Square Garden by superstar Kevin Hart from his 2012 Let Me Explain Comedy tour. Hart is in elite company of comedians to sell out MSG: Chris Rock, Andrew Dice Clay, Dane Cook, Russell Peters and Eddie Murphy.
This song was first performed in 1985, but because we love America, here is a classic by Lee Greenwood.
One of the things that screams Americana is a good-ole fashioned road trip. Perfectly showing the love of your friends, making it through any defeat and the ability to perform a near perfect guitar solo (looking at you, John Frusciante), the Red Hot Chili Pepper's Scar Tissue - the fourth track from 1999's Californication – makes looking beat up a necessary accessory for a summer road trip.
Honorable 90s mentions:
NEW JAM OF THE WEEK – Lorde, Royals (2013) - The New Zealand beauty has a down-under vibe with intense lyrics that reminds YWIPC of the first time we heard Adele. And we like it.
Lorde currently has a five-track EP entitled The Love Club, with the bouncy, pop self-entitled track. Another one of her tracks we love is the instant summer jam Tennis Court from another two-track release. The EP is dirt cheap in the Google Play Store and iTunes, just in time for your beach trip or a summer night out with your girls.
Yeah, and she's only 16 years old.
We all know that former teen queen Amanda Bynes has changed throughout the years.
After massive hit movies and hit TV shows, her eccentric behavior is now taking center stage. In 2012, Bynes, 27, was arrested twice in 2012 for various driving offenses and arrested in 2013 for marijuana possession and tampering with evidence after allegedly throwing a bong out of her apartment's window.
Between those arrests, Bynes has tweeted her utmost desires and deepest inner thoughts, calling celebrities "ugly," attacking magazines and websites for using alleged altered images of her, threatening to sue anyone who she feels defames her, and flip-flopping on whether she finds rapper Drake attractive or not. By the way, as of July 1, she's back in love with Drake, but is in love with someone else that pushes the Young Money artist to second on her list (Drake must be devastated).
Aside from her tweeted photos of her revealing plastic surgeries - which include breast implants and several nose jobs, even having surgery to change a birth defect - webbing in between her eyes - that will help go move into the next phase of her career: hip-hop artist. Bynes will team up with rapper Waka Flocka Flame, and rap under the name A.B.
In addition to her fans defending her behavior, fellow celebrities have defended her sanity, or whatever people are calling it nowadays.
Her best, and most telling tweet in the last few weeks, "Never Try To Ruin Someone…That's Bad Karma…Let Them Ruin Themselves…The Victory Is That Much Sweeter. You Reap What You Sow!"
YWIPC agrees with you, Amanda - as frightening as that might be. We still miss active, acting, hilariously talented Amanda. This Amanda.
