Parking is at a premium at the University of Alabama.
A few days ago, students and faculty who park on campus learned that it will be more expensive than ever when classes begin this fall. Depending on the type of permit, fees will go up from $10 to $30. Drivers using Reserve Rose Administration permits will now pay $530.
"I think they're a little outrageous," student Matt Vance said. "I know there's regulations...but the lack of parking there is on campus and them closing all those parking lots and building even more buildings...it's really stressful on students."
The increase also affects handicapped parking and motorcycle permits. School officials have not released a statement on the need to boost the rates.
Students can start registering for parking permits Monday, July 8 and faculty and staff will have their chance to register Aug. 1.
