Officials with the Alabama Department of Public Health's Tuberculosis Division are planning a meeting for Wednesday, July 3 to answer any questions parents or the community have concerning the recent active case and testing of more than 130 people.

The meeting is scheduled to be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Lee High School.

The ADPH identified one person, a student at Lee H.S. who tested positive for an active case of Tuberculosis. An investigation identified 134 people who were in close contact to the student.

Notices were mailed to those people about getting tested for TB. Testing began on Friday at the Montgomery County Health Department. Tests were read Monday, July 1. The process will be repeated on August 2 and 5.

The need for expanded testing would only take place if a high number of the contacted people are infected.

The infectious disease typically attacks the lungs, but officials say Tuberculosis is treatable and preventable. Those who may have been infected can prevent the disease from becoming active IF they know that they've been infected.
