Suspect in custody for convenience store homicide

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police have taken a suspect into custody in connection to a deadly shooting at a convenience store on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Edwin Wayne, 19 of Birmingham, was fatally shot around in the parking lot of Justin's Convenience Store on 12th Street West in the Rising-West Princeton neighborhood.

Sgt. Williams said an argument between Wayne and another person inside the store spilled into the parking lot, where Wayne was shot around 4:30 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at UAB.

Birmingham police announced Wednesday morning that a suspect in the case was taken into custody late Tuesday night.

Police say they will release more information about the suspect after the warrant procedures are completed.
