TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Some local businesses may be forced to move out of Tuscaloosa to make way for another high rise development that passed tonight.

In a 5 to 3 vote the zoning commission gave the green light for a new development to be built.

The current shopping center is home to numerous mom and pop businesses including the iconic 15th Street Diner. Business owners are furious they didn't receive more than a week's notice.

They voiced their concerns in a public meeting before the vote.

For these small operations the concern is they will have to move out of the city to be able to afford rent.

This new complex is one of many popping up all across the city to accommodate the influx of students at the University of Alabama.
