Multi-county chase suspect captured in Henry Co.

DALE CO., AL, (WSFA) -

Authorities say the man who got into a shootout with police in southeast Alabama following a drive-by shooting in Barbour County Sunday night has been captured in Henry County.

Authorities from several agencies were searching for 28-year-old Cason Helms in the area of Hwy 105 between Clopton and Hwy 10 in Dale County. The circumstances of Helms' capture in Henry County were not immediately available. 

The incident began Sunday night in Barbour County where shots were fired. Cason Helms fled the scene and a Barbour County Sheriff's Deputy, and other authorities, chased the vehicle through Barbour, Henry and Dale Counties. Helms shot at officers several times. The vehicle wrecked in Dale County and the suspect took off on foot.

Cason Helms is described as a white male, over 6 feet tall, with brownish red hair.  He was last seen wearing black shoes, black shorts and no shirt.

Helms was considered armed and dangerous.
