JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A 13-minute high-speed chase through Jefferson County ended with two suspects in custody for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.

Jefferson County deputies and Bessemer police pursued two men they believe stole a motorcycle from the parking lot of the Mercedes Benz plant in Tuscaloosa County.

The theft was reported around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The motorcycle was reportedly loaded into an older white pickup truck, which then traveled north on I-59 toward Bessemer.

Security personnel from the Mercedes plant followed the truck and relayed its position until deputies could intercept it.

Deputies spotted the truck near mile marker 100 and signaled for the driver to stop. When he refused, deputies followed in pursuit as the suspects exited the interstate at exit 108. The chase then continued on to Academy Drive, down Flinthill Road and eventually onto Powder Plant Road.

Deputies said the driver tried to turn from Powder Plant Road onto Bessemer-Johns Road, but was going to fast. The truck left the roadway and hit a tree. The two suspects got out of the truck and into Valley Creek where they were captured and arrested. The chase lasted a total of 13 minutes, Chief Deputy Randy Christian said.

The stolen motorcycle was also recovered at the scene.

Andreas Anderson, a 29-year-old from Bessemer, is charged with attempting to elude and resisting arrest. His bond is set at $12,000.

The other suspect, 40-year-old Laron Amerson of Bessemer is charged with second degree assault, reckless endangerment, attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding and following too close. His bond is $26,000.

The Tuscaloosa County sheriff's office is investigating the case involving the stolen motorcycle.

As Hurricane Maria continues to move north across the Caribbean toward the East Coast, an area of low pressure moves out of the western U.S., leaving an area of high pressure in control of the Southeast weather bringing only a few afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms with more hot, muggy temperatures.
