TIME LAPSE: Deadly tornado hits Oklahoma

MOORE, OK (FOX19) -

A massive tornado touched down to the southwest of Oklahoma City Monday afternoon.

Starting out as a classic funnel it quickly became a giant half-mile wide wedge tornado as it proceeded east north east towards the suburb of Moore, OK.

Damage was extensive and nearly total in some parts of metro Oklahoma City, including at least two schools.

Moore is famous as the site where the highest measured tornado winds on record were measured by a Doppler-on-Wheels mobile radar from Oklahoma University.

This is the ninth time since 1960 that the city of Moore, Okla. has been hit by a tornado. Only one of the tornadoes caused fatalities, in 1999.

NOTE: The time lapse video is over 1000 times faster than standard speed.
