The Middle Georgia College baseball team will forfeit an undisclosed amount of games and is ineligible for the District Tournament after it was discovered they played an academically ineligible player this season.
MGC won the Region 17 tournament last week, but will not play in this week's District Tournament in Tennessee.
That would be good news for Darton State, who was the runner-up to the Warriors in the Region 17 Tournament.
But NJCAA and GCAA officials have ruled the Cavaliers will not replace MGC in the tournament, and will play with only three teams.
Darton State AD Mike Keifer made a request for the tournament, which started Thursday, to be postponed to allow Darton to make the tournament, but the request was denied.
Keifer says "the players would be on a bus right now" if the NJCAA would allow the Cavs to play.
"The timing puts us in a bad spot," Keifer adds.
