Funeral services have been set for the Rev. Nimrod Q. Reynolds, who died Saturday at age 82.
Rev. Reynolds was a Civil Rights leader and foot soldier in Anniston who was beaten in September 1963 when he tried to check out a book at the segregated Carnegie Library. His beating happened the same weekend as the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham.
The incident brought considerable attention to Anniston and a phone call from President John F. Kennedy to city leaders.
His funeral is Saturday, May 18 at noon at the 17th Street Missionary Baptist Church in Anniston. He was pastor there from 1961 until 2009. A wake will be held Friday, May 17 night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.
