Gadsden PD ends chase over safety concerns

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Gadsden Police Department says they gave up pursuit of a suspect after the chase became too dangerous.

On Saturday around 9:45 p.m., officers stopped a Camaro convertible in the mall parking lot after receiving reports of passengers yelling at people while cruising around the mall. The officer noticed alcohol in the vehicle during the stop, but the driver sped away before he could be interviewed.

Police pursued the vehicle south on Rainbow Drive onto I-759 then I-59. As the chase's speeds exceeded 100 mph, officers called off the pursuit for safety concerns.

The driver and vehicle were both identified and the investigation in ongoing.
