Alabama will join other states in celebrating National Nursing Home Week and recognizing nursing home residents and staff for their contributions to their community. Governor Robert Bentley recently signed a proclamation designating May 12-18 as National Nursing Home Week in Alabama.
The Governor's proclamation commends nursing homes for helping Alabama's nearly 24,000 nursing home residents live life to their fullest, and encourages citizens to visit a nursing home during this special week to "learn about long-term care and how nursing homes fulfill their promise of caring for the whole person."
"Take a moment to visit a nursing home and you'll see how compassionate care leads to positive outcomes and satisfied residents," Alabama Nursing Home Association President Richard Brockman said. "Our members invite you to visit the nursing home in your community all year long and especially during this special week."
The theme for National Nursing Home Week, Team Care: Everyone Pitches In, is meant to personify the many professionals and caregivers whose dedication and work ethic contributes to the care delivered at the bedside. Team Care includes nurses, CNAs, therapists, activity professionals, the community and resident family members. The week is sponsored by the Alabama Nursing Home Association and the American Health Care Association.
The text of Gov. Bentley's Nursing Home Week proclamation is below.
