The fight over Bessemer's juke joint, Gip's Place, could boil over Saturday night.

Henry "Gip" Gipson has run the joint from his home for more than 50 years. He was told by Bessemer Police to stop, because the city feels he is operating a business without a license. Police also say they have had complaints of large crowds, vandalism and people urinating on surrounding properties.

Gipson vowed this week at a city council meeting to continue holding his parties and police have promised to continue to shut him down.

One neighbor spoke with FOX6 News who says there's too much noise, too many cars blocking access to the area, people urinating in public places, and the crowds go beyond the 30 people that can legally be at Gip's Place without a business license.

That neighbor says Gip's needs to move, but another neighbor has a different opinion.

"I like Gip's Place. I think it's goo to bring outsiders to Bessemer," Marcus Harris said.

One of Gip's supporters pointed out an article printed in the 2013 Bessemer chamber of commerce magazine. It lists Gip's Place as a sight tourists should visit, even calling it a "hidden gem."
