Smiths Station teens arrested for theft, graffiti

SMITHS STATION, AL (WTVM) -

Obscene graffiti at Smiths Station High School leads to the arrest of two teens at the school.

As investigators began to dig into the case, they determined the teens were responsible for even more serious crimes.

Lee County investigators could not release pictures of the graffiti to us, but our viewers emailed us plenty of the pictures taken at Smith Station High School back in April the graffiti references smoking pot and sexual acts.

Deputies say two Smith Station High School students, identified as 18-year-old Brent Whittis and 19-year-old Deon Davis, certainly left their mark on their school.

Surveillance video helped identify the teens and search warrants at their homes led investigators to more than just spray paint.

"As a result of two search warrants, one at each resident's, we recovered stolen property that belonged to at least 7 residential burglaries," said Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones. "We are looking at a fire arm, jewelry, electronics, game stations, a lap top computers, a tablet computer, some historic coins and antique coins....things of that nature."

Whittis and Davis were pulled out of class and arrested at their high school this week. The two teens bonded out of jail Wednesday night.

Sheriff Jay Jones says the school board will decide how the teens will be disciplined at school as they await their court dates.
