Gulf Shores to close roads, beaches for Hangout Music Festival

GULF SHORES, AL (WBRC) -

The city of Gulf Shores has announced which streets and public beaches will be closed next weekend during the annual Hangout Music Festival.

Gulf Shores city leaders released the following details about road and beach closures today:

Traffic/Roadways:

-Highway 59 will close from W. 1st Avenue heading south at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

-Access to West Beach will be available through Windmill Ridge Road or by taking W. 1st Avenue to W. 3rd Street.

-Access eastbound to Orange Beach will be available through the Gulf State Park, Canal Road or by taking E. 1st Avenue to E. 2nd Street or E. 3rd Street.

-Effective 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16 until 4:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, traffic flow on E. 1st Avenue, E. 2nd Avenue, East Beach Boulevard, E. 1st Street, E. 2nd Street, E. 3rd Street and E. 4th Street will be modified to a one-way-only route to help accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic. The public is advised to utilize directional signage posted in these areas indicating proper traffic flow during this time.

-On Monday, May 20, Highway 59 will reopen at W. 1st Avenue for limited exiting traffic beginning at 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

All normal traffic conditions will resume on Tuesday, May 21 at 6:00 a.m.

 

Public Beaches:

-Public beach access at W. 2nd Street is currently closed.

-The public beach area at Gulf Place will close to the public at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, May 12.

-All residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize other public beach access points including W. 6th Street, W. 13th Street, Little Lagoon Pass and the Gulf State Park.

-All public beaches will return to normal use on Thursday, May 23.
