The following is an editorial from FOX6 WBRC-TV General Manager Lou Kirchen, first aired on Tuesday, May 7:
Although severe weather can strike anytime of the year, we are officially in severe weather season again. In fact, we have our own Tornado Alley here in Alabama. It's called Dixie Alley. With the season come the questions.
Do you have a weather radio? If you do, is it programmed to receive emergency information from your county? Is it plugged in AND turned on 24 hours a day? If you're using batteries, are they charged? Please remember, many severe storms arrive at night, even overnight when you and your family are most vulnerable.
Do you have a safe place to go during severe weather? If that place is your home, is the space away from windows and doors and on the lowest level of your home? Are you sure everyone in your family knows where that space is? Have you reminded everyone lately?
These safety preparations and others need to be put in place now...before severe weather strikes.
J-P and our weather team are dedicated to giving you the weather information you need to help you make decisions to keep you and your family safe. Please be prepared!
What do you think?
