CLARE LIVE - Another milestone for Honda's Plant in Lincoln. Yesterday, Govenor Bentley helped kick off the start of production for the 2014 Acura MDX Sport Utility Vehicle and today it visited us here at the station. Honda's expansion in Lincoln included a 400-million dollar investment- that means hiring more than 400 people to support the production of the MDX. Honda announced in 2011 that it would move production of the MDX from its Canadian plant to Alabama. The Lincoln plant also makes the Odyssey minivan, Pilot SUV, and Ridgeline pickup.
CITIZENS FIREARM SAFETY COURSE - The next Citizen's Firearms Safety Course, taught by the Etowah County Sheriff's Office, will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in room 210 of the Joe Ford Center on the campus of Gadsden State Community College. Citizen's Firearm Safety Course Sponsored by Sheriff Todd Entrekin & Firearm Instructors of the Etowah County Sheriff's Office In Partnership with Gadsden State Community College: The classroom portion of the course will be held in Room 210 at Gadsden State Community College's Joe Ford Center from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. (East Cardinal Drive, Gadsden, AL 35902). MICHAEL O'NEILL - On Monday May 6th, actor Michael O'Neill (J. EDGAR, TRANSFORMERS) will be participating in a Habitat for Humanity build in the Birmingham area for Habitat's Home Builders Blitz 2013. Michael is originally from Alabama. These days he portrays "Senator Roland Foulkes" in the new series, RECTIFY, which just premiered last month on the Sundance Channel. Michael O'Neill will volunteer his time to help the Burpo family achieve their dream of homeownership. Established in 1987, Greater Birmingham Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry serving Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker Counties. The organization is dedicated to making quality, affordable housing solutions available to low-income families. To date, more than 575 houses have been sold at zero percent interest, in addition to 450 other housing units repaired or rebuilt, for a total of more than 1,000 families served in the Greater Birmingham area. IRON MAN 3 - The summer movie season officially begins this weekend with the release of "Iron Man 3"... the movie has already made more than $242 million since it opened overseas on April 24th. In the new film, billionaire superhero Tony Stark battles a terrorist who's out to destroy the US. Star Robert Downey Jr. says 'number 3' has more plot twists than the previous films. This morning Stan Daniels from Kingdom Comics joined us with his thoughts on the new flick. It is rated PG-13.
