Homewood police have arrested a woman in connection to multiple crimes including identity theft, fraud and burglary.

Homewood officers arrested 31-year-old Miranda Dawley of Birmingham on Tuesday, April 30. She is charged with two fraudulent uses of credit cards, but Homewood police say more charges are pending.

Investigators hope that Dawley's arrest will clear up 20 cases. It all began with a stolen credit card. Investigators say Dawley used that card at a pawn shop when she tried to buy and sell items that police believe were stolen.

After interviewing Dawley, investigators now think she may be connected to more than 20 cases of burglary and theft. Detectives have recovered stolen items including jewelry, electronics and lawn equipment. Sgt. Andrew Didcoct says that Dawley kept a low profile during the alleged crimes.

"Basically just walking up to houses finding doors unlocked, car doors unlocked, if they were unlocked she'd go in and take what she wanted," Didcoct said. "And the lesson for us as property owners is what? Lock your doors on your home or car and report any suspicious persons or vehicles to the police."

Homewood police are trying to connect the stolen property they've recovered to their rightful owners. If you have had something stolen in the Homewood area in the last few weeks, police urge you to contact them. They ask property owners to bring serial numbers or pictures if they are available as well.

Dawley is in custody of the Homewood City Jail on a $30,000 bond.
