First residents move into Montgomery's new Plaza at Centennial Hill development

The first residents have moved into the new Plaza at Centennial Hill development off of Hall Street in Montgomery.

The development is a public/private partnership between the Montgomery Housing Authority and Interstate Realty. There will be 129 units in what's known as Phase 1 of the development.

"I stayed in Tulane Court about 13, 14 years so I decided to come back over here," said Kenneth Hudson, who just moved in Wednesday. "With us being the first tenants, you can get the feel, smell the fresh paint and all that kind of stuff."

Some of the units are single level, while others are townhomes.

"Very spacious, three floors," said Charina Allen-Beasley, Deputy Executive Director of the Montgomery Housing Authority. "So it's enough for a family and their children to have space, independent have a little bit of me time."

While many units are completed, construction continues on the other units. Those should be competed in October.

"We're looking for the Plaza at Centennial Hill to be a catalyst for the community," Allen-Beasley said. "For it to be a springboard to do some really unique things to revitalize this community."

There's a lengthy waiting list, but officials are still accepting applications. There are suitability and income requirements. You can begin the process in person by visiting the office at 1624 Mt. Meigs Road in Montgomery. The phone number is 334-819-4747.
