BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The 17-year-old suspect charged with murder in a shooting at Railroad Park appeared before a judge Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, Birmingham police and mayor William Bell announced the arrest of Justin Jones. He has been charged as an adult in the murder of Jermaine Walton, the 15-year-old who died from his injuries after being shot at Railroad Park. It happened around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 when thousands of people were enjoying the park.

Police believe Jones is the only shooter in the case. Police Chief A.C. Roper said that good detective work and tips from the community led to Tuesday's arrest.

Wednesday morning, Jones appeared before Judge Katrina Ross over a video conference. Judge Ross read him his charges, then the teen signed some paperwork.

It's unclear if Jones has an attorney or if one will be appointed to him at a later date. Jones is in custody of the Birmingham City Jail on a $200,000 bond.
