JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Jefferson County commissioners want to settle an agreement to end the employment of their former county attorney.

Last week former county attorney Jeff Sewell agreed to involuntarily retire. Some commissioners claimed Sewell has lost the trust of the commission. Sewell countered by saying Commission President David Carrington was interfering with his legal advice other county commissioners.

Thursday, commissioners will vote on the final agreement to the deal for Sewell to retire without a legal showdown.

"He will get all the sick leave and all of the vacation he has earned. Nothing more or less. I was asked if there would be a golden parachute, no," Carrington said.

Sewell was the highest paid county employee at $400,000. Commissioners hope to cap the next county attorney's salary at around $225,000. A replacement could be named in two weeks.
