A domestic violence situation ended in one death in Elmore County Friday morning.
Sheriffs responded to Luther Street in the Crenshaw Community around 8:00 a.m., where they found Michael Smith with a gun shot wound to his upper abdomen. They got the call from Bridgette Johnson, who apparently had shot Smith.
Johnson claims that Smith was hitting her in the head with a hammer. During the altercation she pulled out a 38 caliber gun and shot Smith in the upper abdomen. She got away and drove down the road to the Cotton Lakes subdivision while on the phone with 911.
Smith died at a hospital about an hour later.
Both Smith and Johnson are known to the Elmore County Sheriff's office. They shared children and had previously filed different reports against each other.
In July this case will be presented to the grand jury to determine any possible charges.
