JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

Friday, the future of Jefferson County's top attorney could be decided.

This week County Attorney Jeff Sewell was placed on administrative leave with pay by Commission President David Carrington. Carrington would not elaborate only saying it covered a variety of issues over a period of time.

Commissioners will meet in an administrative committee meeting Friday morning and then the full commission may convene to take a possible job action against Sewell.

"We lack the legal advice to move forward and what we need to do is as commission is resolve this matter and restore the integrity of our legal department and move forward," Commissioner Jimmie Stephens said.

Sewell released a statement earlier this week saying it's his job to advise the commissioners and Carrington was interfering with that process.
