BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Tuscaloosa Police Department is investigating the death of a teenager after he was shot on Tuesday night.

The Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit identifies the victim as Matthew Hunter Callahan, a 17-year-old from Cottondale. Investigator Kip Hart said Callahan was also a student at Shelton State Community College.

Officers responded to a report of a male subject shot in the parking lot of 1745 Jack Warner Parkway. At the scene, they found Callahan suffering from gunshot wounds and lying by his vehicle. He was transported to DCH where he died.

Witnesses told police gunshots were heard before the victim was found.

Investigators say there are no positive suspects or motives at this time and the scene is still being processed.

"We're reviewing videotape evidence right now. We're obviously processing some evidence that was found at the scene with the car on the ground out there. Still canvassing the area for people who may have seen something or head something," said Lt. Kip Hart with Tuscaloosa PD.

If you have any information about the shooting, you are urged to call Tuscaloosa police.
