Here is what you saw on Good Day Alabama for April 5, 2013:
JEH JEH LIVE @ PLANT SALE - The Birmingham Botanical Gardens hosts its 2013 Spring Plant Sale this weekend. This year's event will be held at the former J.C. Penney at Century Plaza (7580 Crestwood Blvd. Birmingham, Ala. 35210). The event is open to the public today from 9am-7pm, tomorrow from 9am-5pm, and Sunday from 11am-3pm. Admission is free. The sale features over 100,000 plants, most of which have been nurtured by volunteers at The Gardens. This sale allows a unique opportunity, providing expert knowledge on the plants and by offering unique plants difficult to find in ordinary garden centers. And your purchase helps The Gardens reach its educational goals. For more information, call (205) 414-3950 or visit bbgardens.org.
JEH JEH LIVE @ FAIR PARK ARENA - Jeh Jeh also joined us live from the Fair Park Arena in Birmingham where the Birmingham Metro SCLC Basketball Festival will take place. It's the legends vs. Leaders tonight at 6pm. Four civil rights legends face off against four high school legends coached by four community leaders. Pre-game starts with a women's basketball game at 5:30. There will be zumba and line dancing at halftime.
BBJ - Mike talked with Ryan Poe from the Birmingham Business Journal about local business headlines. They discussed how a Birmingham real estate veteran has a contract to buy one of the two downtown buildings destroyed by fire this past week; why metro Birmingham hotel occupancy soared last year but dropped off again this year; and how technical classes are picking up in popularity in schools to prepare students for jobs rather than college after graduation. For more on these and other business stories, visit www.birminghambusinessjournal.com.
JAZZ MUSICIAN STANLEY JORDAN - Stanley Jordan is a jazz musician. He joins us along with Tremayne Thompson of TK Productions. Stanley has a performance tonight at Watermark Place. The doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm. Tickets are $25. TK Productions Presents: Intimate Jazz and Conversation featuring Jazz Legend Guitarist Stanley Jordan! An appetizer buffet will be served while it lasts. Stanley Jordan was born in Chicago, Illinois. He began his music career at age six, studying piano, then shifted his focus to guitar at age eleven. He later began playing in rock and soul bands. In 1976, Jordan won an award at the Reno, Nevada, Jazz Festival. While earning a degree from Princeton in 1981 he played with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie. For tickets, call (205) 425-1137.
AMERICAN IDOL ELIMINATED CONTESTANT - Janice and Mike talked with Burnell Taylor who got the boot last night on American Idol. The top 7 performed classic rock songs this week. America voted and Burnell ended up with the fewest votes. While his time is over, Burnell will still go on tour this summer!
ZOO CREW - Kelly Wall joined us from the Birmingham Zoo to introduce Mickey to the guinea fowl. To learn more information about the animal or visit the zoo, go to birminghamzoo.com.
COMEDIAN - Steve O (a.k.a. Stephen Glover) has become a household name and it all started when he snatched a video camera from his father's closet when he was fifteen years old. From there he started producing homemade skateboarding videos featuring dangerous stunts mixed with comical behavior. He's probably best known for his stunts on "Jackass: The Movie, Number 2, and 3D" and MTV's "Wildboyz" or his moves on "Dancing with the Stars." For tickets or more information for this weekend's appearances, call the Comedy Club Stardome at (205) 444-0008 or visit stardome.com.
BO BICE - Bo Bice returns with a new album! This one mixes gospel hymns and new original songs with Bo's Americana seasoning. The new album is called "New Soul Revival" and includes ten tracks about family, fellowship, and faith. It's described as a to tapping, hand clapping journey down an old southern dirt road to a revival tent. There will be a free concert at New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church tomorrow night at 7pm. New Hope is the church Bo attended and performed at before his days on American Idol. For more information, visit www.newhopecpc.org or http://www.bobice.com/home.
