Pell City head football coach and assistant coach resign

Pell City High School has lost its head football coach and an assistant after allegations of misconduct.

The Pell City Panthers won't be taking the field this upcoming year with their head coach, David Shores. He, along with assistant coach John Clements, submitted resignation letters following allegations of improper conduct.

Thursday the Pell City Board of Education accepted those resignation letters. "I think today was a start to move forward," said Superintendent Dr. Bobby Hathcock.

Dr. Hathcock says there was an investigation into improper conduct on behalf of his employees, but that's all he would say. When asked if there was any inappropriate activity going on between the coaches and students, Hathcock said, "Again, let me say those people do not work for us anymore."

Hathcock was pressed again for more information. Hathcock's response, "Our school board has made sure we don't have anything bad happening with any of our students."

It's still not known, what the improper conduct was. All we know is the coaches resigned, and the board doesn't plan to address any more questions on this matter. "That's behind us, and I think the kids are in safe environment," said Dr. Hathcock.

Although the investigation is complete, school officials aren't releasing the findings.

The Pell City Police Department says there was no criminal investigation into this matter.
