JEH JEH LIVE - Jeh Jeh joined us from Space One Eleven located at 2409 Second Avenue North Birmingham, AL 35203.There is an exhibition of photographs taken by Margaret Wrinkle at slavery-related sites around the South. These photographs were taken while Wrinkle was conducting research for her debut novel, WASH. Published by Grove/Atlantic, WASH reexamines American slavery in ways that confound our contemporary assumptions about race, history and healing. Margaret Wrinkle, a Birmingham native who is a writer, filmmaker and visual artist, will present her novel at a preview reception, reading and book signing at Space One Eleven from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, February 1. GARDENING - Jimmy Rockett joined us with some spring color while we are freezing. Jimmy says with temperatures in the upper 20 and low 30, it is best to wait before planting the spring flowers. He says you can plant up some containers that are easy to move so that if it is going to be cold, you could easily bring them indoors and once frost leaves, you could set them back out. Jimmy says that Birmingham's last chance of frost is typically our tax date, April 15. But, he says we have had frost after that, so just pay attention to what the weather temperatures are going to be. Jimmy says that all of the garden centers should be able to help you on selecting some tougher annuals, like Marigolds instead of Begonias. For more information, call Jimmy at (205) 981-1151, email him at email@example.com, or visit www.rockettsbugjuicegardens.com.
