GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

Gadsden Police say they'll use their newly-acquired three-wheeled T3 Patroller at special events, parks and in parking lots.

Police unveiled the new vehicle to reporters Thursday, showing off what was described as "more robust than a Segway." With the help of some grants, the department purchased the vehicle for $9,500.

"It allows the officer to get around, basically better than somebody that's on foot patrol, let them carry some equipment with them," said Sgt. Wayne Keener.

Officer Guy Frondorf was the first to be trained on the vehicle and took his first ride with reporters present.

"After a few passes through our course, it's just like riding a bike. It's fun, it's very easy. Anybody would have fun doing it," Frondorf said afterwards.

The vehicle has a top speed of 15 miles per hour. The "green" vehicle runs on a battery that has a 10-hour charge.

Keener says many residents will likely get their first look at the T3 Patroller at First Friday on April 5 unless it's raining.
