BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) announced today they're bringing several big names to Birmingham in April for a 3-day symposium on youth and the struggle for human rights.

The gathering will be the first major summit at Birmingham's new Westin Hotel downtown.

It's part of the BCRI's yearlong special programming for the 50th anniversary of the events of 1963 in Birmingham.

Panelists including Charlene Hunter-Gault, authors Rami Khouri and Jose Antonio Vargas, and FOX News contributor Juan Williams will be part of the event April 25-27.

"Showing the world the impact that young people had on the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham Alabama, and how what happened here continues to have an impact globally, even today," Dr. Lawrence Pijeaux, BCRI President, said.

The symposium is free and open to the public but if you'd like to reserve a spot, you can register online at bcri.org.
