BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham firefighters have contained a blaze at the federal courthouse adjacent to the Hugo Black Federal Courthouse.

The two-alarm fire took about 15 to 20 minutes to put out and firefighters say construction workers were welding in an elevator shaft when the fire began.

The resulting smoke damaged the top floor of the building. Investigators are still looking into how the fire started.

The courthouse is located at 5th Avenue North and 19th Street North.
