Mercedes Marathon weekend officially underway

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Mercedes Marathon weekend has begun!

At noon on Friday, the race weekend began with a fitness expo hosted by St. Vincent's Health Systems at the Boutwell Auditorium. Racers can pick up their packets there. The expo will start up again on Saturday morning.

At 8 a.m. on Saturday, the Superhero 5K will take place followed by the Bell Center EIP Children's run at 10 a.m.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Mercedes Marathon starts at 11 a.m. at Linn Park on Saturday. 5th graders will start first and will be followed by each descending grade in 10 minute increments.

On Sunday, the big race begins at 7:03 a.m. The half marathon carries a 4 hour time limit and the full marathon has a 6 hour time limit. After the race, the Jim ‘N Nicks Bar-B-Q Race Party and Awards ceremony starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m.
