GARDENDALE, AL (WBRC) -

A Gardendale High School student has been removed from the school after telling other students they were on his list of people to shoot, officials said today.

The student allegedly told other students that they were on his list of people he planned to shoot when he "went off and shot up the school," the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported.

The student, only identified by authorities as a 15-year-old male, said he was joking, according to the Sheriff's Office. His family admitted him to an area hospital for a mental evaluation following the incident.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the alleged threats, and so far deputies have not found any evidence of an actual list. They have confiscated the suspect's computer and are searching it for any credible threats or lists connected to the threat. The Sheriff's Office says they do not believe the student has access to any firearms.

A student's parent reported hearing about the list and alerted school administrators on Tuesday, who then reported the threat to the Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer Division. An SRO deputy located three students who were reportedly on the list.

Officials say a terrorist report has been made and charges will be filed through family court. The school's administration will "take action" on the student's status, the Sheriff's Office said.

The school sent out the following message to parents through their SchoolCast alert system:

Good afternoon parents of GHS students.  Earlier today a news release went out in reference to an incident that was brought to the attention of the administration on Tuesday.  We responded swiftly and appropriately, and there was never a point in which any student or teacher was in danger.  Proper steps were taken to eliminate any reason for concern. The safety of our students is a top priority, and we will always take every measure possible to ensure that.  Again, please know that there was never a point that anyone on campus was in danger.  Thank you and have a good evening.
