JEH JEH LIVE - Jeh Jeh joined us with Red Rock Tuesday. This month he features the Walking School Bus in the West End community. This program is through United Way. They are walking from the West End Library to Hemphill Elementary School.  The Safe Routes to School of Central Alabama initiative leads a Walking School Bus program at three schools currently participating in the program.  Typically over half of the 280+ students to walk to school each week, and the program has continued to grow since it was launched in the Fall of 2011.  Safe Routes to School programs like the Walking School Bus encourage lifelong healthy habits while highlighting the need for infrastructure to support an active population. For more information on the many hiking trails and future plans, visit http://www.redrocktrail.org/.

MONEY TUESDAY - Stewart Welch looked at how to fund a home improvement project - is it a better option to cash in your IRA or take a loan? He explained how to weight the cost and penalties of each to figure out which is the best solution for your situation. For more information, visit www.welchgroup.com.

HEARTCHILD MOVIE PREMIERE - The A.skate Foundation is a registered 501c3 non profit that allows children with autism to be a part of our social world through skateboarding.  We hold clinics for children with autism at no cost to the families, give grants to children with autism for skateboard gear, as well as promote awareness and educate families about the skateboard industry.  Five years ago 1:150 children were diagnosed with autism. Today 1:88 children are diagnosed with autism. The A.Skate Foundation holds clinics nationwide for children with autism at no cost to the families, gives "Grants for Gear" for kids to purchase skateboard gear, and holds fundraisers and events to promote the cause. The A Skate Foundation is constantly searching for clues and cues to answers in the complex structure of Autism.  In the complex structure of the universe we use symbolism and association to do everything from teaching, navigation, contemplation, worship, and even branding.  These are methods to think, steer, and connect.  It is communing with the familiar to potentially open doors to the unfamiliar.

"Heart Child" is a documentary film about twenty-nine year old Crys Worley, who is the mother of a nine year old autistic child, Sasha. It is a remarkable story about a mother's struggles, not only with her own health, but the well being of her son. Committing to Sasha that she will never give up on him and inspired by the challenges parents of autistic children face, she started a non-profit organization, called A.Skate - Autism. Skating with Kids through Acceptance, Therapy, and Education. This film documents her extraordinary journey. You can catch the premiere of it in Alabama at the Bama Theater (600 Greensboro Avenue) in Tuscaloosa on February 18th. For more on the theater, call (205) 758-5195 or visit http://bamatheatre.org. For more on the film and Crys's story, visit www.heartchildthemovie.com.
