TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

Tuscaloosa authorities say they have arrested a man after he allegedly fired at a vehicle with a family inside.

The shooting took place Saturday morning in the Peterson community on Highway 216 between Tuscaloosa and Brookwood. Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputies were called to a neighborhood in the 13000 block.

Investigators received a report of a man discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. The victim told them that 51-year-old Bruce O'Neal Duncan fire three rounds at his vehicle as he, his wife and four-year-old child were leaving a residence in the area. The victim said he heard one round strike his vehicle.

The investigators found where the vehicle had been struck and found that a round had struck an unoccupied residence across the street.

After the shooting, Duncan went inside his home and refused to come out. Deputies located some of his relatives, who later convinced him to open the door.

"There was sometime after the event occurred where he would not come to the door. We found relatives who were able to talk him into coming to the sheriffs office. He was taken into custody at that time," Captain Loyd Baker with the sheriff's office said.

Investigators don't know what led to the shooting. The family in the car didn't know Duncan personally and they had not crossed paths with him before.

Duncan reportedly made some "bizarre" statements to deputies at the scene, so it's unclear what may have set him off.

Duncan is facing one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and one count of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied dwelling.
