Jeffco pleased with negotiations with creditors

Jefferson County Commissioners say negotiations with their creditors are doing well. Commissioners just returned from a trip to New York City to meet with the creditors.

Commission President David Carrington says he is pleased with how the negotiations are going. He believes that both sides want to make a deal and no one wants Armageddon.

No details are being given out in the deal, but they will be discussed in a closed-door session on Thursday. Commissioner Jimmie Stephens says that there is still a gap in what the creditors want and what Jefferson County is willing to pay.

Also in Jeffco news, a bankruptcy hearing on Wednesday has creditors' attorneys pushing to get higher sewer rates and to reinstate Sewer Receiver John Young. The creditors are arguing that the county has not raised sewer rates enough and they want to take the fight to state court. So far, the bankruptcy court has not allowed any move into state court.

"I think There is a general acknowledgment probably that we will prevail this week," said Carrington.
