More potholes are popping up on interstates, creating a danger for the drivers who dodge them. Fortunately, The Alabama Department of Transportation is working to fix the problem in Jefferson County.

In fact, workers will be out Saturday, Jan. 26 filling potholes on I-459 between Highway 280 and Trussville.

"I've hit some really big pot holes," Caleb White told FOX6 News.

And it's been a costly thing for him to deal with. He believes his car troubles were caused by big potholes on the interstates.

"I've actually has my front end out of line before. I don't know what caused. Twice it happened, maybe it was a pothole I hit," White said.

Because of potholes, Carolyn Harwood dreads driving to her hometown.

"I'm from Mobile so I drive I-65 all the way and back. It's terrible, always swerving around," Harwood said.

Drivers may have already noticed some potholes have been patched up on Jefferson County interstates. Officials say that repair work is being done on all interstates in the county.

"The first thing we've done is got out there and intentory interstates in Jefferson County to figure out what are the worst locations that are almost dangerous," ALDOT spokesman Brian Davis said. "We started patching those first first. That's required us to kind of jump around the interstates."

Davis says officials know the roads are in a horrible state of repair and what that means for drivers. But he says the ride will get better and there's a bigger project ahead to fix the bumpy roads permanently.

"We have ultimate paving jobs coming in spring and summer. So patches we're doing now just temporary measures to hold road together unitl spring," Davis said.

Davis says drivers will see a lot of interstate paving this spring and summer. There are two projects on I-459, between US-11 in Trussville to Highway 280.
