Fairfield police released a few more details today about the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a Birmingham police officer charged with domestic violence.

Fairfield Police Chief Leon Davis says the police officer called Fairfield Police just before 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 to report that he teenage daughter was "out of control." The officer told police he had "chastised his daughter due to declining school grades" and she became combative with him, Davis said.

Chief Davis says the officer was arrested for third degree domestic violence "due to the nature of the call and some visible bruising."

DHR was notified since the teenage girl was underage and DHR officials took her to Children's of Alabama hospital. Chief Davis said the girl did not have any serious or life-threatening injuries.

Fairfield police are not releasing the officer's name since a formal complaint has not been signed or issued. Davis said the officer made bond and has been given a court date.
