JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

One man is fighting for his life at UAB Hospital after a shooting that began with celebratory gunfire. It happened in the Eastwood Mobile Home Village on New Year's Eve. The shooter is still on the run and wanted for attempted murder.

The suspect fired a shot into the air and after the victim asked him to stop, the suspect got mad and turned the gun on him. The victim was shot in the chest and shoulder.

One resident of the mobile home park says no one has ever been shot in her neighborhood before.

"It's probably someone I know. Everybody knows everybody. It sucks it has to go that extent," Sinahi Tello said.

"Somebody just got mad at other person, pointed a gun at him, shot him. The alcohol played into it as well," said Irondale Police Detective Michael Mangina.

The police know little about the suspect. They say his name is Miguel but they don't know his last name. He is in his 20's and he left the park in a white SUV or truck. Police believe he may live in Bessemer or Birmingham.

You are urged to call Irondale police at 205-956-5990 if you know the suspect or where he may be.
