GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Sachin Kapoor is safe and sound after a hike in Lake Guntersville State Park. His family was worried after he didn't return Thursday evening.

Lake Guntersville State Park police said 25-year-old Sachin Kapoor, who goes by the name Sanjay, went hiking around 4 Thursday.

Family members said he left by himself, possibly seeking the highest location in the park, and wanted to enjoy a spiritual nature trip. His mother requested he be back by dark. When he failed to return, she contacted park rangers, which prompted the search.

His mother said he has left to go hiking from their Owens Crossroads home before and been gone for days, but this was a family outing and he was only supposed to be gone for not much longer than an hour.

They picked the search back up Friday at daylight with tracking dogs as well as on foot.

Police said he was never considered a missing person.

Kapoor was found walking out of a wooded area around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
