JEH JEH LIVE - Jeh Jeh joined usl ive from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to look at the new presententation - "Black from the Heart of Dixie: Famous African American Alabamians." It is on display through February 24th in the Odessa Woolfolk Gallery. The "Black from the Heart of Dixie" exhibition features portraits of some of the many influential African Americans to come out of the State of Alabama. Because of its status as a Smithsonian Affiliate, BCRI has been able to secure several photographs from The National Portrait Gallery for this exhibition. The National Portrait Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition and study of portraits of people who have made significant contribution to American history and culture. The photos selected from this important collection, include Hank Aaron, Jesse Owens and Booker T. Washington. The remainder of the exhibition consists of a generous donation of paintings from the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in Tuscumbia, AL and from renowned artist Ronald McDowell. Those works include Alabama luminaries such as: Wilson Pickett, The Temptations, George Washington Carver and Rosa Parks. This important exhibition closes BCRI's 20th Anniversary year and opens the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 events in Birmingham that changed the world.
