Vehicle theft suspects considered 'armed and dangerous'

Shelby County law enforcement officials are searching for a pair of suspects they believe may have stolen and abandoned two vehicles.

For three hours early this morning, officials were involved in a manhunt in the area of Eagle Point subdivision.

The suspects, described as two black males, "remain at large and should be considered armed and dangerous," the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said in a press release issued a little after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Deputies responded to the 5500 block of Parkside Drive around 3 a.m. on a report of a person who had a weapon. Just before the deputies arrived, the suspect reportedly left the area in a white Acura.

Soon after, a vehicle matching the suspect's car description was seen on Cahaba Valley Trace. The sheriff's office says the vehicle "refused to stop and attempted to elude deputies" as they pursued it.

The car chase ended when the suspect lost control of the car at the intersection of Cahaba Valley Road and Eagle Crest Drive and crashed, the sheriff's office says. After the wreck, two black males fled on foot and evaded capture. Deputies say the car they abandoned in the crash was reported stolen from Pelham.

Hoover and Pelham police officers helped Shelby County deputies establish a perimeter and search the area. At 5:37 a.m., another vehicle was reported stolen from a home in the 1100 block of Eagle Park Road. Deputies responded to the home and found that a black 2009 Chevrolet 2500 Silverado was stolen. It also had a hunting rifle inside.

"After approximately three hours of searching without success, the area was reopened to the public," the sheriff's office stated.

Deputies believe the suspects who abandoned the white Acura then stole the Chevrolet truck and fled the area. The sheriff's office says "numerous vehicles in the general area have been broken into" in addition to the stolen truck.

Birmingham police officers found the stolen Chevrolet truck unoccupied on 7th Avenue in Wylam. The hunting rifle was not with the truck.

Anyone with information about the case or who saw anything suspicious is asked to call the Shelby County Sheriff's Office at (205) 669-4181, the Secret Witness phone number at (205) 669-9116 or report it online at
