Gadsden police report two robberies over the weekend

GADSDEN, AL (WBRC) -

The Gadsden Police Department is investigating two separate robberies that took place over the weekend.

The first robbery took place on Saturday at 4:30 a.m. when a 21-year-old Hispanic male told officers he was robbed at gunpoint outside the Grub Mart at 1101 West Meighan Boulevard. The man said that he went into the store to buy beer when he was approached by three black males. He said that one struck him in the head with a handgun and took his wallet and beer. According to the victim, the offenders left in two separate vehicles going in different directions. The responding officer noted the victim was "extremely intoxicated" at the time.

The second robbery happened sometime after midnight on Sunday morning. The victim says he was returning from the hospital after receiving a CAT scan when he stopped at the intersection of Tuscaloosa Avenue and North 8th Street. While stopped, the victim says three black males opened his car door, pulled him out and beat him unconscious. The men then fled the scene in the victim's car. The victim says he was able to walk home and get a friend to take him to the hospital for treatment.

Police have not said if the two robberies are related. If you have any information on these robberies, please contact the Gadsden Police Department.
